Began at Teachwell:
Why did you choose this field?
As an elementary teacher, I pursued a masters degree as a reading specialist/literacy coach to learn more about how to help struggling readers in my classroom. Part of my graduate program included analyzing reading data and providing training and assistance to teachers in my district. I really enjoyed both of those aspects of my internship, and decided to pursue a career that would allow me to focus more on those areas.
Teachwell gave me the opportunity to use my knowledge and skills to help teachers in a variety of educational areas. I enjoy the flexibility in my schedule and the opportunity to work with teachers in many districts across the region.
What keeps you motivated?
Working with such an amazing group of people is a big motivation. Their focus on excellence and teamwork motivates me to continue learning all I can about the field of education in order to share that with teachers.
How do you hope to make a difference?
As a classroom teacher, I enjoyed making a difference in the lives of the students I worked with. Now, I get to share effective classroom strategies with teachers, and ultimately impact so many more students.
Goals for the future?
My goal for the future is to continue learning as much as I can about the field of literacy in order to share practical, effective strategies that will help teachers improve the outcomes of struggling readers in their classrooms.
What is your background experience – degrees, experience, skills?
I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Special Education from DSU in Madison, SD. After graduation, I worked as an elementary teacher (both in general education and special education) for 9 years before joining Teachwell. While teaching, I received a Masters Degree in Elementary Education (in the area of Reading Specialist/Literacy Coach). I have also received certification as a DIBELS trainer/mentor.
What is the one thing you would like people to know about you?
I have two amazing daughters – Kaydence and Isabel. I’m a big fan of the Beatles, and I’m passing that on to my girls as well.
