Began at Teachwell:
Why did you choose this field?
I’ve always been grateful for the great teachers I had growing up. They were people that always made me feel valued and made learning fun. There were many in particular that pushed me through some difficult times and I earned so much respect for them that I didn’t want to let them down. I just felt like it was my responsibility to give that same experience to other kids
What was your favorite subject in school?
I loved my English classes. I had wonderful teachers who pushed me to never settle for “just good enough.”
How do you hope to make a difference?
While they may not realize it at the time, we push our students and get them to see that they are capable of much more and that they have the opportunity to make a difference for themselves and in the lives of others.
I started with East Dakota Educational Cooperative in 1995 while working at Springfield Academy. I had just graduated from college and was looking for a teaching job but was a mid-year graduate. After being offered the chance to substitute teach at Springfield Academy, I was offered a chance to start the High Impact/Career Academy (now Teachwell Academy) in Sioux Falls. 21 years later I’m still here.
What keeps you motivated?
No two days are ever the same in the High Impact Program. I love variety and I never know what kind of excitement is going to happen next so each day is a new adventure.
Who or what most inspires you?
I love the underdog. Anybody who defies the odds and perseveres is so inspiring.
