Dr. Janeen Outka

Instructional Leader

Began at Teachwell:

 2009

Why did you choose this field?

I love helping teachers and administrators and impacting education in a broader sense by working with school districts across the state.

What or who most inspires you?

I’m inspired by the people with whom I work-both my colleagues and the teachers and administrators in the field.  It is especially rewarding to be able work as a partner with our schools and assist them in problem solving and developing systems that will work for their unique situations.

What was your favorite subject in school?

English, Spanish, and science

What keeps you motivated?

Our work and decisions we make regarding training and education policy impact teachers and administrators across the state.  Knowing that I’m part of that decision making process keeps me motivated to do what’s right for both educators and students.

Goals for the future?

Goals for the future are to continue in the field of education in my current capacity and strengthen our partnerships with all education entities across the state.

What is your background? Experience, degrees, skills, etc.?

I have taught K-12 and both undergraduate and graduate at the higher ed level.  I have a B.S.ed (teacher certification) from Northern State University, an M.ed (principal certification) from South Dakota State University, an Ed.S (education specialist school superintendent certification) from University of South Dakota, and an Ed.D (doctorate in EDAD) from University of South Dakota.  I was the program coordinator at ESA 4 for 5 years and have been at ESA 2 since 2009. Currently I work primarily in Teacher and Principal Effectiveness, but also continue to do Title school support and CTE work.

What quirky thing are you known for around the office?

I work remotely, so am not often in the office and am able to hide my quirks from the rest of the staff!
