Kristine Smith

Special Education Teacher

Began at Teachwell:

 2018

Why did you choose this field?

I chose to be a teacher to make a difference in students' lives. I want students to take away from me that they can do anything they put their mind to.

What or who most inspires you?

I am inspired by hearing about the backgrounds of the different students and how resilient they can be to keep working through life. It inspires me to help them achieve a better future.

What was your favorite subject in school?

English.

Why Teachwell?

I love the community of Teachwell. From day one, I felt like I had known the staff for months. All the staff are very supportive of each other!

What keeps you motivated?

I am motivated by the success of others and my students. I want to continue to better myself as a person and professionally to be able to give the best to my students and the staff to lead them to be successful.

How do you hope to make a difference?

I hope to make a difference by leading by example for the students. I hope to be a role model and someone they can look up to and someone who inspires them to do their best.

Goals for the future?

As of right now, my goals for the future are to just gain a firm understanding of the special education world since I am a first year teacher. I want to be able to service students to the best ability they deserve.

What is your background? Experience, degrees, skills, etc.?

I graduated from Augustana University in 2018 with a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education.

People would be surprised to know that I . . .

grew up on a farm and often help my dad with the farm work, and that I am working to get my own cattle!
