Sara Hanson

Transition Coordinator

Began at Teachwell:

 2015

Why did you choose this field?

My career has transformed over the years.  From teaching pre-school, special education, day treatment and children’s mental health work to the present work with Teachwell Transitions.  I enjoy working with challenged people and assisting others in bettering their lives.

What or who most inspires you?

Mother Theresa!  She was truly a living saint who loved and inspired people.  She sought to serve the poor and the destitute of the world.  This one little woman lived her life serving others and made a huge difference in the world, but also was a great example of humility.  One of her quotes inspires me each day:  “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

Why Teachwell?

Teachwell fell into my lap as my husband and I were in transition and moving to Sioux Falls.  With the 2015-16 school year already in motion I began the search.  Teachwell was looking to fill a position – and the rest is history.  I am thrilled to be working in this environment with awesome programs and extremely dedicated coworkers.

What keeps you motivated?

I would not be lying if I said:  “Coffee and chocolate”….but I truly am motivated by student’s smiles, personalities and their everyday successes!  Positive praise and laughter is also a motivator in my world and work.

What is the one thing you would like people to know about you?

I believe that teaching is much more than teaching skills – I approach the classroom with discovering character and perusing and developing each individual student’s needs, gifts, talents and abilities.  I take what I do very seriously and at the end of each day I address and celebrate the student’s successes of that day.  There is a compliment waiting for us every day – and in my classroom setting we discover them!
