Began at Teachwell:
Why did you choose this field?
I've always loved art. I chose to become a teacher, because I was inspired by the impact educators played in my own life. Above all, I hope students leave my classroom with one more positive influence and a new understanding of fine arts.
What or who most inspires you?
I am inspired daily by the resilience I see in my students. Life is tough, but they keep moving forward.
Teachwell offered me a unique environment of education that is both teaching at the secondary level but also working with at-risk youth.
What was your favorite subject in school?
This is probably obvious, but art was my favorite subject.
How do you hope to make a difference?
I hope to leave students at McCrossan with one more outlet for creatively as they move forward with their lives.
What motivates you?
I am very motivated by my family. From my earliest years, I've been encouraged to pursue my interests. I hope to do the same for my own children. I want them to know I have their back as they have always had mine.
What is your background? Experience, degrees, skills, etc.?
I have an undergraduate degree in art from the University of Sioux Falls. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Education in Teaching from USF. I have over four years of teaching experience in the Sioux Falls area, and enjoy working with groups of students considered underprivileged and at-risk.
Goals for the future?
I would love to continue teaching art, pursuing my own art, and staying involved in volunteer work.
People would be surprised to know that I . . .
have dyslexia and frequently have to correct myself when I'm writing things on the board/typing.
