Began at Teachwell:
Why did you choose this field?
I have worked with at risk youth for 40 years. I think I can confidently say that it really makes my heart sing.
What did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
I was not sure what I was going to be while growing up but often would "play" school and I was always the teacher. Somehow I knew through my actions.
What or who most inspires you?
My mother has inspired me for decades. She was the strongest but gentlest human I have ever known.
Teachwell Academy spoke to me because of their hopes for all students. They truly want students to achieve and will do what needs to be done in order for that to happen.
What are you proudest of?
I am proud that many former students continue to maintain contact with me as adults.
How do you hope to make a difference?
I hope to make a difference by helping students understand their worth. I want them to know that they have the ability to make a positive impact in the world around them.
What lessons has your work life taught you?
I continue to learn lessons from the youth I work with. The lesson that is foremost is that you have to build trust with others with words and actions before you can move forward.
What is your background? Experience, degrees, skills, etc.?
I have a BA degree in Education. I have worked at both private and public facilities in the Sioux Falls area. I believe that my greatest skill is listening. We all have a story that needs to be told.
People would be surprised to know that I . . .
Many people I know are surprised to know that I rescued a horse and consistently worked with her, most days were a challenge. Today, we ride together.
