Abby Halvorson, MA CCC-SLP
Began at Teachwell:
Why did you choose this field?
What I love the most about the field of Speech-Language Pathology is the diversity. We get to serve infants to geriatrics, can practice in a variety of settings, and are skilled to work with many diagnoses. I have always loved science and teaching/mentoring others, and in this field, you get to use both skillsets to positively impact other’s lives. I am always learning, and no two days are the same.
What did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
An elementary teacher or school nurse. I guess it's fitting I ended up in the school-setting after all.
What or who most inspires you?
My faith and my family.
I am looking forward to the new learning opportunities and challenges that the school-setting has to offer. The staff at Teachwell have been so encouraging and thoughtful and I look forward to being a part of their team.
What are you proudest of?
What lessons has your work life taught you?
That making positive connections with others (e.g., patients, caregivers, coworkers) is invaluable.
What is your background? Experience, degrees, skills, etc.?
I received my BA in Communication Sciences and Disorders and my MA in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of South Dakota. I have worked primarily in the medical setting serving pediatrics to geriatrics with a variety of diagnoses. I am excited to transition to the school-setting and to expand my knowledge working with children alongside a great team at Teachwell!
People would be surprised to know that I . . .
have Irish triplets.
