Lisa Bannwarth, Ed.S., NCSP

School Psychologist

Began at Teachwell:

 2025

Why did you choose this field?

I love kids and figuring out how people's brains work and what makes them tick! I was introduced to school psychology in college and it seemed like the perfect combination of psychology and education. I love getting to work with students one-on-one and really get to know them, plus with teams of amazing special education staff and families.

What did you think you were going to be when you grew up?

I had many career aspirations as a kid. Most interesting were probably cleaning lady, librarian, basketball coach, and marine biologist.

What or who most inspires you?

So many past students who have overcome huge obstacles to reach their goals.

Why Teachwell?

Teachwell is an incredible organization that always looks to fill the gaps in education. I so appreciate how they are looking to serve the state, especially areas that don't always have access to resources.

What are you proudest of?

My three kiddos.

How do you hope to make a difference?

I hope in my role as a school psychologist I can help kids, families, and teachers understand how their brains work and how to make school better for them.

What lessons has your work life taught you?

Everything is 'figure-out-able!' Also, relationships first.

What is your background? Experience, degrees, skills, etc.?

I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Creighton University and then went on to graduate school at the University of South Dakota to receive my Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology. I've worked in group homes for adults with disabilities, specialty preschools, public schools, universities, and clinics. I especially love working with students with autism and have experience in diagnostic autism clinics and teams.

People would be surprised to know that I . . .

studied abroad in the Dominican Republic and El Salvador in college.
